How to Get Rid of Stress in Exams

It is a well-known fact, and I am sure everybody agrees that stress in exams is always a certainty. You need to get the notes from the classes, get the exams schedule and learn all the courses, without mentioning tat you have to give the actual exam. There is a lot of physical and psychical energy consumed during the entire process, and stress in exams is the best example.

Stress in exam is mainly about psychical stress, which manifest itself as a feeling of tension and discomfort that is caused by a series of stressors, frustration and repression of different motivational factors.

Stress in exams can be recognized by several symptoms:

-Physical symptoms: headaches, cardiovascular affections, allergies, dermatologic problems, sleep disorders.

- Psychological symptoms: emotional and learning problems, depression, anxiety, frustration, isolation.

- Behavioral symptoms: use of drugs and alcohol, aggressive behavior, relationship problems, decrease of work performance.

Stress in exams determines many changes in the life of students. Those negative effects reflect in his behavior and consequently in his entire lifestyle, leading to unhealthy food habits or lifestyle unproductive changes. Students don’t get too much sleep during the exams and increase the quantity of substances that help them focus and stay awake the entire night.

They need to cope with the large amounts of information required for passing the exams, and most of the time, they don’t even eat right. Stress in exams can become a chronic affection. In time if students don’t learn to manage their stress, serious consequences can occur, like functions disorders, depression or even organic diseases.

You must understand a thing though: stress in not something we are born with, it is a natural reaction of our body when confronted with difficult situations.

- There are advantages of stress in exams, even if we don’t realize them at the moment: stress can prepare us for facing difficult situations, by making us more focused and vigilant.

- The negative side of stress is that if it lasts for longer periods of time, it can cause psychical and organic disorders.

In order to manage stress in exams properly, you don’t need a magic formula, because there is none. What we need to do is elaborate a personalized plan based on positive thinking, changing the way we see things and proper management of time. In addition, a healthy lifestyle is required in order to get rid of stress in exams. As a result, students will be able to have a clearer vision of the things they need to do, especially things they are afraid to do, such as exams.

- If you are a student that must go through a tough session of exams, you can either look for a professional psychologist that will teach you some relaxation and autosuggestion techniques in order to go by yourself through stressful moments or you can try to relax using a simple exercise.

*** Sit comfortable and try to focus on your breathing. Each breath will get you closer to a relaxing sensation, similar to the one you experience while you fall asleep. In the beginning, try 10 breaths.

Slowly, you can achieve complete relaxation through fewer breaths. As the exercise advances, try to achieve the same calming sensation with our eyes open. If you manage to achieve this relaxation sensation fast, you can use the exercise in every stressful situation in your life, including stress in exams.
