Plan Your Life around a Stress Arousal Checklist
BASIC TIPS FOR HANDLING STRESS
There are many definitions of stress. It is not possible to mention all of them here. One good definition from a high school psychology textbook defines stress as:
"Stress is a particular pattern of disturbing psychological reactions that occur when an environment event threatens important motives and taxes one's ability to cope."
In simple English, stress is a phenomenon that we all feel and reflect through our actions. But we need to draw a line between good and bad stress, and this is why we need to compile a stress arousal checklist. No stress in life can also create some stress. A little bit stress helps us in improving our self and searching for the best.
> Stress gives us new challenges and it also gives us the confidence to tackle it. But this all happens if we manage stress efficiently.
> If we can't then we'll be overtaken by it. In short, we can't avoid stress because it is an integral part of our life.
Stress can be used constructively, if you have a stress arousal checklist. It helps you develop your personality and skills. It forces you to improve yourself in studies and in all fields of life. However, too much of anything can create problems.
> Too much stress can bring negative results.
> Too much stress can result in physical and mental sickness. It is not necessary to eliminate the stress, as in reality, it is not possible. Stress makes you work harder and get your peak performance.
One of the basic principles of stress management is to set some hurdles in the path of your stress, through stress arousal checklist. In this way, you'll avoid any stressor to overcome you. These hurdles could be a change in a person's personal life. It could be the way in which the person gets and respond to the stressor, or it could be a change in a person's physical or psychological capabilities.
In short, to put all these hurdles in the path of the stressor, try to get control over your self with a stress arousal checklist. Once you attain control over your self, then managing stress will become an easy task. Stress management entail setting up roadblocks at various points along the stress pathway (above).
> Change can be made in an individual's life situation, and in the way s/he perceives and responds emotionally and physiologically to the stressor. You are in much greater control over yourself than you ever realized, managing stress is simply exercising that control.
EFFECTIVE CHANGES IN LIFESTYLE:
1. Learn to Plan with your stress arousal checklist:
Don't leave today's workload on tomorrow as tomorrow never comes. Everyday is today. So don't leave anything on tomorrow. Otherwise you'll end up with all the things stacked up. If you are handling two tasks at a time then its better to prioritize your work and decide its predecessors.
> It's a good practice a make a Gantt chart so that you are aware about your tasks and their deadlines. The bottom line here is to learn time management skills.
2. Recognize and Accept Limits:
It is very important to have a realistic approach while doing anything and a stress arousal checklist surely helps. Nobody in this world is perfect, so don't set unrealistic goals for yourself else you'll end up with a failure and stress. Set feasible goals for yourself.
3. Have Fun:
People who spare some time for leisure activities are much more relaxed than those who devote themselves completely for their work. You should occasionally go outside with friends to have fun. It will help you in getting your self relaxed.
4. Be a Positive Person.
This is very important point on your stress arousal checklist. Try to avoid unnecessarily criticizing anyone. Try to be optimistic. Keep motivating and be motivated all the time. If you like someone's work, praise it. Focus on the good qualities of others and learn from them.
6. Avoid Unnecessary Competition.
Every person faces competition in his life. Everyone come across challenges and competitions that no one can avoid. You should perform well and you should not be too concerned about the result. Competitions help you in improving yourself. Even if you loose a competition, take it optimistically and learn from your mistakes. Again, be realistic. It's not possible for a person to win all the competitions of his life.
