- Do what you feel. If you feel like crying, then cry. If you feel like smiling, then smile or laugh. Be positive in your mind. Talk to your self and say 'I can do it or I must be ok' etc.
- Try to find comfort and ease for yourself, as the post traumatic stress disorder can get you on the road of hell if not taken care in time . Try to get your self relaxed. Get yourself on the ground and try to calm your nerves.
- Try to follow and listen to your mind. Try to get control over your ideas. Take nutritious food, regular exercise, avoid excesses of anything and try to quit cold drinks that contain caffeine.
- You should know when you turn off different media like internet, radio or TV. Watching too much TV or listening to radio for long periods of time or surfing on the internet can result in 'information overload', and this can aggravate your post traumatic stress disorder much more. Try to get your self relaxed by taking a shower before going to sleep or a foot-rub. You can also try a light meal.
- Be as you like. If you want to spend sometime with yourself, then be alone. When you want to socialize, then find out the social support. Involving in social activities gives inner peace. You can join social activities like being a volunteer, donator etc.
- Another good technique is a write a fake letter, also called as 'Comfort Letter'. Address this letter to anyone. You can even address a film actress or a dead man. Write a comfort letter to any person, whether dead or alive, known or unknown. But remember, not to send them. When you are done with it, there is another activity that you can perform and enjoy. Reply back to yourself, you'll be amazed with the pleasure it will give you. This technique works well under stressful conditions such as the ones generated by a post traumatic stress disorder.
- When you do something for others, when you please someone else, you feel an inner satisfaction. So, if you have a soft heart for others, then try to spare some time and space in trying to know other's feelings and mental wounds, and try to heal them. Try to give them the strength of fighting against stress. This, in return, will give you the strength and confidence to balance your stress levels. Helping others is in a way helping your self.
- If you feel that any person or professional (preferably medical professional) can help you in your problems, then it's better to consult rather than sitting keep quiet.
- Most of the time, we get under stress when we gaze at our past or expected future. You should avoid it to get your self relaxed. Let you be in present.
It's sometimes better to look at your past so that you can learn from your mistakes or experiences but excess of anything can result in stress. So avoid going too much into the past or future.
