Dealing with How Stress Affects Sports

Stress can be used positively in sports but at the same time it can result in a bad stress. Using stress positively means that a sportsman uses stress to improve his performance in the game whereas, bad stress result in a failure or loss. This is because of because a player can't handle the pressure of the game properly. That's why most of the time it is not the battle of players, but it is the battle of their nerves. This article will discuss both kinds of stress, underlining how stress affects sports.

DEFINITION OF SPORT:

Sport is a general term which describes any activity that demands a perfect mental and physical level appropriate to that particular game. For example, football and cricket both require the players to have certain mental and physical standard levels. Different sports require different level of mental and physical effort. For example, wrestling require a lot of physical fitness. On the contrary, golf doesn't require that much physical fitness, but it does require a very healthy mind.

>> As our stress level increase or decrease, certain amount of certain hormones in our bloodstream increase and decrease. The most common hormones are adrenaline and cortisol.

>>When these hormones are pushed in our bloodstream, our energy level increases. Our muscles become a bit stiff and tight, indicating that our body is ready for some hard work. Even our pupils allow more light to enter so that we can have better eyesight. All this is done when our nervous system detects an incoming stressful event. Now there are two ways to affect this response. First case is much related with an inexperienced sportsman and the second is related with an experienced sportsman. Let's discuss both of them:

INEXPERIENCE:

In this case, the person is not very much aware about the rules of the game. the player lacks experience in handling stressful situations that occur during competitions, and this affects his performances.

- These two common stress factors, causes him to feel a bit anxious and worried about the game.

In case of physical fitness, every sport has different physical requirement. This is hardly a problem even for an inexperienced sportsman. In order to understand how stress affects sports, the person should take the sport as a fun. Don't think it as a competition. >The best way to deal with stress in sports is to take one step at a time and learn from the mistakes.

EXPERIENCE:

Another method to have control over your body's reply to any stressful situation is experience. Sportsmen with a lot of experience in a particular sport know how to get control over their stress and how to control their nerves.

CONCLUSION:

Knowing how stress affects sports is essential for any sportsman. Having stress is important if a player wants to lift his performance levels. Maintaining a perfect level of stress and having control on one's own nerve is quite harder than maintaining a good physique required for that particular sport.

For this reason, all players should be well aware of how to manage the stress. Knowledge of the stress management is the best way to improve the performance because you know how to maintain a perfect stress level or how to alter it when required.
