Why Does Anxiety Appear?

The predecessor of anxiety is a stressful life. The threshold for getting anxious varies from person to person. Even those who have a low threshold can teach themselves to tame anxiety response. A large number of anxious people get the disease themselves by paying undue attention to the negative aspects of there daily life or the negative outcomes of the events.

The path- physiology of anxiety disorders:

With the advances in medical science, workers have now been able to explore the relationship between stress, anxiety and the social, psychological and social aspects of human life. Such research will not only help doctors to understand the basis of disease but will also be important to develop new treatment methods and prevention strategies.

Important factors, which play a role in development of anxiety disorders, are as follows:

• Genetics.

• Brain physiology.

• Personality.

• Factors in daily life.

• Social Factors.

When the anxiety is pronounced it becomes difficult to concentrate, there is a feeling of being tense, restless and jittery, it becomes difficult to concentrate, there is loss or appetite and the person prepares himself to deal with an impending disaster. Sometimes these are a result of depression as at times anxiety can mask depression.

Genetics:

Some people show hereditary predisposition to anxiety. It has been observed that if one of an identical twin develops an anxiety the other is more likely to suffer from the same as compared to a non identical twin. No doubt these disorders are usually precipitated by a stress factor and those with familial predisposition are more prone to it.

Brain Physiology:

Most of the medicines used to treat anxiety act by altering the release of various chemicals and neurotransmitters in brain. Thus, brain’s physiochemical makeup appears to play an important role in occurrence of anxiety disorders.

Personality:

Self-confidence is a part of anybody, which plays a major role in anxiety. Those individuals who lack self-confidence usually become anxious due the fear of poor performance. This is particularly important factor in those cases, which develop anxiety disorders in childhood. In addition, person living in the company of confident and dominating personalities develop are more vulnerable to anxiety.

Factors in daily life:

Many persons who are suffering from anxiety when investigated give history of chronic exposure to anxiety and stress building factors such as low social class, sex abuse, child abuse and interaction with war or violence.

Sometimes addicts who abuse drugs like amphetamines; Ecstasy or LSDs develop the symptoms of anxiety. Even excess of caffeine in the shape of coffee or tea can make you anxious.

Social factors:

The regular occurrence of stressful factors around plays an important role in developing stress. These may be like violence, death of a dear one, divorce; poor job environment or a combination of these with addiction, alcohol and drugs may lead to anxiety disorder like GAD. Even a persistent spell of bad weather may complement the factors mentioned above in emergence of a picture of GAD.

Prevalence of GAD:

GAD is said to effect 4 million adults in American population in a year. It usually has its foundation in the childhood but may also occur in adult life. Women suffer more commonly with this disorder than men.
