When Stress takes over Your Body - Is Infertility a Result?

Stress can have a dramatic impact on your fertility, and not many people are aware of this fact.

* Just relax and you'll get pregnant faster...

* Don't think about it too much?

* Are you trying too hard to conceive a child?

If you are trying to get pregnant, it is very possible that you have already heard advices such as the ones above. Moreover, you will immediately see that those statements lead to the assumption that stress and infertility are closely related. Close members of your family often don't realize that such advises might stress you even more. The result is a constant pressure that creates guilt: you might think that if you would relax more and forget about your fertility problems, you will finally get pregnant.

Trying to get pregnant is a stressful process, especially if several months have passed with no concrete results. It's a melange of emotions, hopes and stress usually caused by the medication, the regular hospital check-ups and the extra expenses. This is why coping with stress and infertility is not an easy thing to achieve.

There is a complex relation between stress and infertility. In some case, stress causes sterility, while in other situations, infertility leads to severe stress. Nevertheless, there are no concrete results in any of those couple of situations, and most of the times, it all depends from one person to another. Some people that blame stress for their infertility often say that they would like a higher control over the events in their lives, and the desire of being able to conceive a child is always a pressuring one.

Even if there are no relevant studies that confirm the impact of stress on peoples' fertility, there are few aspects that are very clear. Stress and infertility are a true burgeon on one's self respect and this causes a continuous pressure and negative influence. Many men and women say that they feel less men/women after being told they are not able to conceive a child naturally.

Medical researches have proven that sterile women have a higher level of depression than the ones that are getting cancer treatment! This is a fact that can cause many controversies, but actually we all are aware of the fact that we can get ill, even have cancer, but we often don't realize we can't have children.

It's a powerful impact of our self esteem, because there is nothing in life that can prepare us for such an emotional disaster. We grow with the assumption that we are capable to give birth, and with the impression that we are able to control our fertility, but the facts are more striking than we think. Infertility practically takes away the control in our lives and lets us vulnerable in front of stress and depression.

In addition, couples dealing with infertility have to face all sorts of treatments. Meeting with doctors, medical tests, treatment and nervousness are constant causes of stress and infertility. The pressure of stress is caused by the attempts of balancing the personal life, the professional activities and the medical treatments. Fortunately, there are few methods that can help you cope with stress and infertility, especially when it comes to the stress that is usually associated with it:

- Take yoga classes;

- Relax yourself with massages;

- Use relaxation techniques;

- Do what you feel comfortable with: read, take a walk even cook;

- Try to synchronize your work schedule and your personal activities with the medical treatments.

Always remember that you just have to find the best way to take care of yourselves, instead of letting stress and infertility drive you away from a pleasant and fulfilling life.
