The Complete List of Causes and Effects of Stress
The causes and effects of stress are very many and distinct. Medically, the stress is a chemical or mental reaction of the body to exterior agents that damage or physical or psychological health. Hans Selye, a Canadian doctor, identified three types of phases that the body goes to in answer to stress.
1. The first one corresponds to the alarm phase. The body detects the stress and gets ready to act, fight, and escape of it. The endocrine glands free hormones that increase heart rate, respiration, sugar level, exudation, dilate the pupils, and slows down the digestion.
2. The second phase, the resistance one, the body repairs the damages created by the first phase.
3. The third phase, the exhaustion appears because the resistance phase goes on. There can appear a deregulation related to stress. The prolonged exposure to stress saps the energy resources of the body and can even lead to death. The causes and effects of stress are plenty but to save yourself from the most dangerous effect - the death - you should prevent the causes.
There are lots of disorders related to stress like diseases generated or aggravated by the psychological stress. These disorders usually imply the nervous system that controls the internal organs of the body. Some of these stress related disorders may be: head-aches, ulcer, hypertension, repeated strain, etc.
There are lots of causes and effects of stress that can generate serious diseases. Studies today focus on the way stress affects the immune system. It seems that the negative events like a serious accident or the death of someone loved provokes enough stress to reduce the resistance of the body to certain diseases. But also some little events that can create a weak form of stress like a newborn baby or changing the job and this also can lead to an atrophy of the immune system.
>> The sociologists have studied the causes and effects of stress and got to the conclusion that on a scale of 1 to 100 the death of someone loved has the major value, and then follows the divorce, the prison, the loss of the job, and, finally the change in the sleep rhythm.
Causes and effects of stress
The stress influences, as has been said before, the progress of certain diseases like a cold or even cancer. The scientists say that the explanation is in the evolution of the human nature. In the past people lived with certain constant threatening of the wild animals and of other people because there was a continuous war. That is why the body adapted to living under psychological stress.
- The heart rate and the blood pressure increase and when the person affected acts against the cause of stress the vital signs are reduced back to normal.
But when the body cannot act because there are certain elements that do not allow it the vital signs are more and more increased and if these situations are repeated constantly can lead to hypertension. Other determinants can lead to deregulations similar to stress. Among these people are the 'type A' (predisposed to the diseases of the coronary arteries). These persons are called workaholics but there are also jobless persons that can be called type A because there predisposition to stress is as high as the others.
