How to Negotiate With Yourself to Live a Healthier Life
As we wakeup every morning to start another busy day, many of us forget that due to the ever increasing pace of our lives that stress and health are unavoidable linked together. One will always be apart of the other. The issue for most of us is that if we fall to slow down our health will begin to deteriorate.
Stress affects our bodies in three primary ways mentally, physically, and emotionally. Left unchecked stress could hurt us in many different ways. Mentally stress could case anxiety and depression. Physically stress can affect your heart and cause high-blood pressure. Emotionally stress can effect how we interact with people, home, and the office, causing us to snap at others over the smallest of perceived infractions.
Many of us think that working under pressure makes us stronger in the long run; nothing could be further from the truth. Our body and mind can take only so much stress before fighting back. We can survive only so long under constant fight or flight stress levels. Most of us fail to properly gage the level of stress in our lives until after we have suffered a major medical condition due to stress.
It is essential that take care of our health to fight off the stress in your day-to-day lives. Our first step should be awareness, we must learn how varies stressful situations effects our mind and bodies. Once we know this we can start to take the needed steps to reduce stress in our lives, and to try to avoid the most stressful situations we encounter.
The following idea should help reduce how stress affects your mental health.
1. Try concentrating completely on one of your favorite places for 60 seconds at a time.
2. After each minute change the mental image in your mind slightly to keep it interesting. Doing this for five minutes will make you feel regenerated.
To reduce the emotional stress in your life try medication, find your favorite natural sound or rhythm such as waves or birds chirping. If you prefer you could listen to your favorite instrument melody to center your emotional health.
Physical activity is great for reducing the physical stress in our lives.
- One of the best activities I do to reduce my stress level is to take a short five-minute walk right after waking up in the morning. I find the Sunlight very soothing and invigorating. If this is not for you, simply try your favorite physical activity for 20 minutes a day when you start to feel stressed out.
Once you learn to listen to your body and find how you react to different stress stimuli, you will have come a long way to living a longer and healthier life. Learn to avoid or reduce the major stress stimuli in your life, and add some of the techniques discusses in this article to your busy life, you will be glad you did.
