The Role of the Employer in Reducing Employees' Stress

The domain of stress management has become quite demanding especially in the last decade of the 20th century. New trends in management have emerged that display better quality management with increasing competition thus creating higher stress levels at both the ends, that of managers and those who are being managed.

* The reason for tremendous success of big enterprises like Toyota and Rubbermaid is that they keep their creative and caring factors correlate with the cost.

In order to motivate workers and other persons, caring is a key factor. This key factor is already endorsed by social workers and psychologists since long. Making people feel important, giving them a certain value, and acknowledging their work is the key towards excellent performance.

The following five steps of the employer help decreasing the stress level of the employees:

1. Acknowledge the services of your employees

It has already been tested and proved by B.F. Skinner that you should reward certain behaviour if you want the other person to keep up his performance. The employer through regular praise of his employees can make his employees feel important and valued, that in turn reduces stress in them and creates motivation and commitment with their job.

2. Appreciate their work

Never take the services of your employees for granted. Try appreciating them.

3. Keep equality among your employees

It is a fact that the total sum is always greater than its parts. We are dependent on one another in order to produce a certain product. The nobleness of the surgeon is as good as that of the nurses who assist him. The therapist is also as good as his patients, who willingly trust him and share with him their personal problems as well.

4. Treat every employee by giving him separate equal attention:

There are people with different physical, psychological and emotional requirements. Therefore their motivations to work also differ according to their nature. There are persons who work in order to earn money, others for some creative exercise, still others to get some experience of the domain. A manager can be successful in making his employees more productive provided he understands their psychology and can reach the motivating factor to work under the circumstances.

5. Communicate:

Always keep a working rhythm with the employees, keep sharing data with them, by giving clear directions and setting such goals for them that are not out of bound or extra exceptional.

The given info is just a little gist of the information that is available regarding job stress and the different ways to counter balance this stress. In case you are unable to get relief for the above mentioned symptoms, you may ask for professional assistance.
