Top 10 Anxiety Stress Relief Vitamins and Minerals

The health benefits of getting the daily recommended quantities of anxiety stress relief vitamins and minerals are widely known. It may be no surprise therefore that some of these vitamins are very important in the battle against stress in our day to day lives.

Anxiety stress relief vitamins and minerals work in different ways by providing nutrients which control the metabolism rate and the hormone levels within our bodies. By keeping these two things stable we can provide a better mechanism to cope with stress and anxiety inducing situations. Most of the recommended anxiety stress relief vitamins and minerals can be found in the foods that we eat and can simply be attained by eating a healthy and balanced diet covering all the major food groups.

* The two exceptions to this however are vitamin D and vitamin K, which are created through processes in the skin and in the intestines respectively.

Whilst some people believe they acquire the necessary amount of anxiety stress relief vitamins and minerals, others may deem it necessary to take vitamins as a supplement to their diet if they believe they do not eat foods which provide the recommended daily dosages. Before self-medicating it is important that you seek the advice of a medical professional.

Foods: This vitamin can be found in foods including milk, liver, butter, eggs, and fruit.

* Vitamin B Complex

Effect: This is perhaps the most important of the anxiety stress relief vitamins and minerals, working on several different parts of the body to provide stress coping mechanisms.

- One of the B Complex vitamins is called Niacin. This is responsible for maintaining metabolism which is necessary for the creation of Serotonin which is a neurotransmitter promoting a stable and balanced mind.

- A second B Complex vitamin is called Pantothenic acid. This is responsible for maintaining the adrenaline glands, which in turn are responsible for the creation and maintenance of stress hormones

Foods: This vitamin can be found in foods including peas, beans, meat, poultry, fish and grain based cereal.

Vitamin C

Effect: Vitamin C is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the hormone Cortisol which has an important role in stress levels. Also vitamin C provides more effective stress coping mechanisms due to it containing anti-oxidants.

Foods: Vitamin C can be found in foods including oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, tomatoes, berries, cabbage, lettuce and peas. Foods containing vitamin C must be eaten raw or the positive effects will be lost.

* Vitamin E

Effect: Vitamin E acts in the body as an anti-oxidant. Although the effect of this vitamin on stress is yet to be fully understood it is thought that it has properties which alleviate stress.

Foods: Vitamin E is found in foods including nuts, cabbage, lettuce and certain types of oil.

The easiest way to take the described anxiety stress relief vitamins and minerals as a supplement is by taking a one-a-day multi-vitamin supplement which can be bought in most major supermarkets, pharmacies and health food shops.
